EARTH HOUR PARTICIPATION

On March 28th, more than 200 cities worldwide showed their support for the Earth and our environment by participating in Earth Hour. Buildings, businesses and residences turned off their lights, reducing their electricity usage and inherent carbon footprint, in a show of solidarity for a more sustainable planet. Vornado joined NYC efforts by turning off the lights in several key buildings including 731 Lexington Avenue, 1740 Broadway, One Penn Plaza, Two Penn Plaza and 770 Broadway.

  SUSTAINABLE SPACES

Vornado is pleased to announce that we now have LEED CI (Commercial Interiors) certified spaces which includes tenant-built spaces as well as Vornado's own standard pre-builts. We will be highlighting specific projects over the next few months.

888 Seventh Avenue, 43rd Floor
Vornado has designed and built one of the city's first LEED certified pre-built spaces on the 43rd floor at 888 Seventh Avenue. This 5,294 square foot space has a proprietary HVAC system that is 35% more efficient and a daylight dimming system with photo sensors to reduce the lighting load. 80% of the construction debris from this space was recycled, with 18% of materials used in the build out being recycled content.

AOL at 770 Broadway
AOL's space on the 4th and 5th floors at 770 Broadway, which is expected to receive a LEED CI Silver or Gold certification from the USGBC this month, is an outstanding example of both sustainable design and construction practices. During construction, 91% of waste was recycled and diverted from landfill.

Recycled materials and rapidly renewable materials were used throughout the space including the counters, ceiling and even the reception desk. The water efficient fixtures in the space are anticipated to reduce water usage by over 30% compared to standard design, while energy efficiency measures including occupancy sensors and lighting controls as well as metering and controls on HVAC have decreased energy costs by nearly 30% over standard spaces. AOL is currently working on LEED CI certification of their 6th floor space and has pushed the envelope even further regarding its sustainability practices.

Congratulations and thank you AOL!

VORNADO AND ENERGY STAR
Vornado is happy to announce that we received ENERGY STAR awards for 7 additional buildings in our New York portfolio since our last newsletter, including:

150 E 58th Street
1740 Broadway
11 Penn Plaza
770 Broadway
330 Madison Ave
640 Fifth Avenue
2 Penn Plaza

ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. EPA and the U.S. Department of Energy focused on promoting energy efficiency. For commercial buildings, the ENERGY STAR program scores the energy performance of buildings on a 1-100 scale. Facilities that achieve a score of 75 or higher are eligible for the ENERGY STAR award, indicating that they are among the top 25% of facilities in the country for energy performance.

Congratulations to these buildings!
